General

Barbados is one of the jewels of the Caribbean and is a good place for a surf trip especially for those with a non surfing partner. Barbados has palm fringe stunning beaches and combined with the warm climate and cool Caribbean culture makes Barbados an epic place to visit. Kelly Sater once commented after a day’s surfing in Barbados that it was the best day of his surfing life. While not the cheapest destination it is possible to find good value board and lodgings. The west of the Island is home to many exclusive Hotels however there are many sides to the island which surfing can help you explore. Barbados is easily accessible from a range of tour companies and is about a 9 hour flight from Europe.

The Surf

The Surf is generally best in Barbados from November to April which is a great time for those looking to escape the European Winter. The surf in Barbados would generally be described as fun rather than life threatening however Soup Bowls on the east coast is a world class. The swells often have a short period and the swells are therefore not powerful but are pretty consistent, It is possible to get in the water most days during the winter swell season. This consistency attract many pros to come train for comps in the idicallic surroundings.

The East Coast is the No.1 surf area and has intermediate to advance surf breaks, one such break is Soup Bowl, located in the town of Bathsheba, this break is internationally recognized within the surfing world, other breaks are Sand Bank, Parlor, Ragged Point and a few other secret spots.

The West Coast of Barbados is a lot calmer and when it has waves it can produce very clean head high left point breaks. Duppys and some other breaks in the north west can live up to Hawaiian standards easily, other breaks on this coast are Maycocks, Tropicana, Gibbs, Batts Rock.

Along the South coast of Barbados are the best beginner/intermediate surf breaks, we recommend surfers to look for accomadation on this coast, this is where you can surf all day and if it gets to small, it is only a 30 minute drive to Bathsheba. Surf breaks on the south coast are Surfers point, South point, Freights bay and Brandons.

The Climate

Barbados offers one of the nicest climates on the planet. The constant sunshine is accompied by a steady trade wind which is refreshing. The water is warm and there is no need for a wetsuit but a rash vest is advisable to protect against UV.
